The teenagers Rose Hathaway and Vasilisa "Lissa" Dragomir are best friend and escapee from the St. Vladimir's Academy for more than one year. When the guardian Dimitri Belikov from the St Vladimir's Academy and his team find the girls, they bring them back to the academy. Rose is a Dhampir, a good half human-half vampire breed that can eat regular food and are trained to protect the Moroi from the evil immortal vampires Strigoi. Lissa is a Princess of the Moroi, a good mortal breed of vampires that feed of blood from donors and is capable to control one of the four elements. When they return, the Headmistress Kirova intends to punish Rose, but the old Moroi Victor Dashkov, who was a friend of Lissa's family, dissuades Kirova from her intent. Lissa dates her outcast schoolmate Christian Ozera but unexpectedly she is threatened by someone that wishes to harm her. Victor's daughter Natalie joins Rose and Lissa to help them to seek out who might be the enemy.
Seventeen year old Rose Hathaway is reckless, passionate, outspoken and beautiful. She is also a dhampir (half vampire/half human) training to become a Guardian, an essential part of her world needed for the survival of her race. She, along with others study at St. Vladimir's Academy in Montana where they coexist with Moroi (mortal vampires who can manipulate the element -air, earth, fire, water) until they graduate to protect the Royal Families from the evil, nocturnal, immortal Strigoi vampires who kill humans and Moroi alike. The war is never-ending and it has been a battle of survival for centuries. But will Rose be able to prove herself through discipline when she herself is falling for her 24 year old mentor, Dimitri Belikov after returning to school with Princess Lissa Dragomir, a Royal Moroi and Rose's best friend after an infamous two year furlough that endangered their lives?
I watched it a few months/weeks ago. but, I just had to say it. this movie is not as bad as it seems, not so good either though. I never read the books, so i can't tell about comparisons. there are some parts that excite you, especially of you're a young adult, but the rest is boring dramas and stupid fighting scene with bad choreography. of course this movie is not the kind that I expect to be well acted, well directed with good pacing and storyline. so I have a very low expectation. and in more ways than not it is. it was bad acted, has bad cinematography, slow story pacing, and definitely not good directed. but, like i said, there some exciting part. the part that you just want to know a little bit more at the beginning, definitely disappointed in the middle, but then surprised that the ending isn't as bad as you think it would be.
the best part is the black haired girl and the character played by the girl from modern family. they're probably the best assets in this movie. two characters who at least decently acted. i got it. they're funny and bad ass, and one girl could actually made me pity her. the romance is a big no, it disgust me and one big negative aspect of this movie. it's just to much, overly done. i would love the black haired girl, but she just became annoying and ooc half of the movie because of the romance. i know it's in the book, it's the main plot, it's a ya adult thing, so love story is an obligation but i just wish there's no romance at all. between them there's just no physical chemistry, no emotional chemistry, no good story background, nothing. the black haired girl at least has more physical chemistry with her blonde friend's boyfriend and not her Russian lover, who looked like he could be thirty. the blonde girl just is so annoying with that stupid accent, honey you could act a lot better than that, so are the two boys (even hot bodies can't save them).
bottom line, it's bad, but it's 2,5/5 kind of bad for me. Vampire academy is one of the few teenage vampire stories that deviates from the well trodden path of a weak insipid girl falling in love with a handsome rich vampire. Rather it is a story of friendship and all that encompasses a teenage girls life. It's not a story of a swooning girl but rather a girl fights for what she believes in. it's a story filled with an amazing sarcastic humour and fight scene. You never get bored but are hooked till the end. it's a versatile movie i promise even the boys will enjoy. It's easy to fall in love with the characters that the actors portray so well. As with all movies that are based on books and hard core fans will be disappointed bit even they will love watching their dearest characters come alive on screen. It's hard adapting a book but the directors don't do the characters an injustice but rather seem to enhance their qualities. it's a fun entertaining movie to watch to help you relax and forget life for a while. who don't like vampire stories that too one which is entirely different from normal story lines, i am very much thank full to Flickstree for recommending this particular film. The supernatural fight scenes are cheesy and cheap, but this movie is less about epic brawls and more about a headmistress in fabulous dresses, secret meetings with brooding boys in the library, sexualized fang pokes and making wisenheimer comments during prophetic visions. Yes, the movie is based on the first book in a series of six teen/young adult Vampire Academy books written by Richelle Mead. The books include: (1) Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters (2007), (2) Vampire Academy: Frostbite (2008), (3) Vampire Academy: Shadow Kiss (2008), (4) Vampire Academy: Blood Promise (2009), (5) Vampire Academy: Spirit Bound (2010), and (6) Vampire Academy: Last Sacrifice (2010). a5c7b9f00b
